Past President of the European Society for Contraception and Reproductive Health. She is a Senior Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and responsible for clinical education at Karolinska University Hospital.

She is an Honorary Clinical Professor at Hong Kong University; Honorary Fellow of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare of the Royal College of Obstericians and Gynaecologists, United Kingdom; member of the International Committee for Contraceptive Research, the Population Council, the WHO Reproductive Health Research scientific and technical advisory group, the International Planned Parenthood Federation medical advisory panel, the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics and the working group on prevention of unsafe abortion; and former president of the International Federation of Professional Abortion and Contraception Associates.

She is head of the Swedish reference group on family planning and a member of the scientific board of the Society for Obstetrics and Gynecology. Her research is translational, with a focus on endometrial function, embryo implantation, induced abortion, safe, efficient, simplified abortion care, emergency contraception and development of new contraceptive methods.

Her clinical work focuses on sexual and reproductive health care.
